SMTA Student Chapters
The mission of SMTA Student Chapters is to create learning opportunities for networks of post secondary students to develop professional skills and the knowledge necessary to work in electronic assembly technologies and related business operations.
Student chapters, shown in yellow on the maps on the Local Chapters & Affiliates page, may be established at any post secondary school with curricula that supports surface mount technology, microelectronics, electronics packaging, or related industries.
It is e-a-s-y to start an SMTA Student Chapter on your campus:
1. Submit a Student Chapter Application Form and select a faculty advisor.
2. Recruit at least 5 student members to join.
3. Hold elections for chapter officers.
4. Establish a bank account.
5. Register for on-campus group recognition with Student Affairs, Engineering Society, or Student Union/Council, for example, and learn what financial and other assistance is available.
6. Approach engineering faculty and department for support, promotion, and other guidance and exposure.
7. Develop an activity plan for the year that consists of events such as facility tours, technical speakers, and special networking events. (Contact a local SMTA Chapter for ideas or to explore joint projects.)
8. Submit a year-end activity report to SMTA Headquarters by May 30 to receive a $100USD activity grant.
9. Hold new officer elections at the end of the year and transition to new leadership.
